How to Pronounce Words from the Tapestry of Bronze

A reading group from Northern Virginia asked us how to pronounce the names in Iokaste. We thought the question was great, and so we have put together this guide. Often, however, there are many legitimate versions of pronunciations which we have not given here -- and no one knows with certainty how the Greeks were speaking 3300 years ago! Below we give only suggestions, not hard-and-fast rules, based, whenever possible, on Dictionary of Classical Mythology by J. E. Zimmerman. Note that many of the names and words are from our current project and are not to be found in Iokaste.
